How it all startedShop History

He Never Just Wanted to Fix Cars. He Wanted to Understand Them.

Long before Checkered Flag had a name, Dominick was the person who wanted to know how things worked—and how to make them work better. He always liked cars, but his curiosity never stopped there. If something could be taken apart, understood, and repaired he wanted to learn how.

From Past To Present

Built Over The Years.

What began with curiosity, shop class, and lessons after school grew into a lifetime of understanding problems and putting things back in working order.

1977

Learning by doing

The first lessons came hands-on.

Shop class gave Dominick a place to put his curiosity to work. At 16, he also began learning auto repair after school from a World War II veteran neighbor—listening, testing, taking things apart, and doing the work himself.

1984

A shop of his own

Responsibility came with the keys.

Dominick opened his first New Jersey gas station and repair shop. From that point forward, drivers brought him the problems they could see, hear, and feel—and trusted him to find the cause and make the repair clear.

Today

Still hands-on

The same curiosity guides the work.

Dominick remains directly involved in the garage alongside the shop team. The vehicles and tools have changed, but his standard has not: understand the problem first. Test Never Guess.

What Has Never Changed.

What started in shop class and continued after school became a lifetime in the trade. Today, Dominick still works in the garage alongside the shop team—listening to what drivers are experiencing, finding the cause, and helping them understand what comes next.
